Water, Land and History

Located on Tempe Town Lake right next to the marina is Vela luxury apartments and Downtown Tempe, Arizona is directly across the lake. Residents need only to step out of their front doors and walk over to the marina for all kinds of boating activity.

One of the fastest growing water sports in the country is stand-up paddleboarding. Introduction and advanced classes are offered as well as stand-up paddleboard yoga. This yoga class features seated and standing yoga positions on the paddleboard on the lake. This class will surely challenge your balance. Kayaking classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels are offered and there is even a glow kayak evening class offered on select Fridays. Tempe Town Lake Rowing club offers classes for both beginners and experienced rowers. The Arizona Yacht club and the Arizona Sailing Foundation offer beginning sailing classes and even advanced racing courses.

If you prefer to stay on land, there are several walking, jogging and biking trails near the lake. The 2.5 mile lake has 12-foot concrete paths on each side of the lake and public art lines the lake on both sides. Four different trails are a mile away at Papago Park. The longest is the West Park Loop trail which is 3.1 miles long. Also at the west end of Papago Park is the Loma del Rio Ruins. These ruins were left by the Hohokam prehistoric people that inhabited the Sonoran desert of central Arizona from about 300 AD to 1400 AD.
